The city of Dubai offers plenty of international contacts. It just may happen that you are sitting down to dinner with ten different nationalities. The official
language in Dubai is Arabic. Besides Arabic, Urdu and Farsi are also common. For most of Dubai's inhabitants, however, English is the main language in daily life.
Children are taught both English and Arabic in school.
Learning how to speak Arabic is of course also an option for you yourself. On many business occasions, it will be considered a nice extra touch. The De Haan
relocation consultants can inform you about the different courses that are being offered. Mostly, they will base their information on their own experiences.
Social contacts
Should you feel the urge to join your fellow countrymen, then you can join one of the many international association. These associations regularly organize
coffee mornings, cocktail evenings, cabaret nights and excursions. Upholding their own culture is also one of the cornerstones of their activities. Besides
these, there are also numerous other type of social gatherings like Baby & Tots, community groups, Expat Mums etc.
Social life mainly takes place in and around hotels. This is where most restaurants are located, due to liquor licensing. Dubai has a zero tolerance policy
regarding alcohol and driving. Alcohol can only be obtained with a special license that may be applied for once you have your residence permit. The limit of your
license depends on your job and salary. Our local consultants will be happy to advise you on this application - or we can do it for you!
